A Night of Luxury in the Land of Lemurs: Lokanga Boutique Hotel

Sometimes a girl’s gotta spoil herself… Right?

After a month of camping around East Africa I was Madagascar bound… More specifically Madagascar’s number 1 luxury boutique hotel bound…

Lokanga Boutique Hotel is an intimate and freshly renovated hotel is situated atop a hill close to the old Queen’s Palace in Madagascar. Designed in the traditional Malagasy townhouse style, Lokanga Boutique Hotel is built on the site that once housed the Queen’s musicians, and is named after the Malagasy violin. This prominent viewpoint looks out across the city and is the perfect spot from which to enjoy magnificent evening sunsets.

Sounds nice… Right? Luxurious… Opulent… Romantic…. Maybe… Almost… Too nice…

IMG_1740I had a good excuse.

My original plans for Madagascar were more ‘Romantic getaway’ with my ‘wonderful boyfriend’ kind of plans… Well ‘wonderful boyfriend’ bailed on me after I had booked the nicest hotel in the city.

But I am not one to let boys (or lack of) stop me from having a bit of romance in my life.

I refused to cancel.

So here I was, in a private vehicle, en route to one the best hotel in Antananarivo (according to TripAdvisor at least – but TripAdvisor wouldn’t lie).

It was the most expensive night of my trip. But definitely the nicest. I am a strong believer in ‘you get what you pay for’… And I got what I paid for. (Even a bathtub!)

Lokanga Boutique Hotel is decorated in a 1930s style using antique furniture the guest rooms and features panoramic views of the capital.

Once I arrived at the gorgeous hotel I was shown a couple of different rooms that were available… They were all absolutely stunning with incredible views of Antananarivo. I made my choice based on my favourite bathtub…

I spend the evening in the room. I had absolutely no reason to ever leave. The next month of my life was going to involve rural-village living standards so I made sure I enjoyed every second of luxury. I bathed, I room-serviced, I movie-watched, I wifi-ed, I wined and I blogged. It was the perfect night in.

The hotel only features 6 rooms but from everything I have seen online – they are all incredible. In one of the world’s craziest capital cities it is the perfect romantic retreat for one (or maybe two).

After a romantic city break..?
