Walking Around with Buenos Aires Free Tours

By on May 24, 2016

Once again my mother and I found ourselves in a new city. Overwhelmed by the long streets, the confusing maps and the street ‘Cambio, Cambio’ money converters we need guidance. And Buenos Aires free Tours provided us with just that.

We were in and out of the wonderful Buenos Aires a couple of times during our time in South America and thanks to Buenos Aires Free Tours we were able to get a feel for two very different routes through this wonderful city.

The first tour we did was the morning tour which explored Recoleta, the upper classed of the city. Our guide was wonderful and funny and gave us a personal experience – happy to answer any question, including any queries about the shabby state of the Argentinian economy and some very honest thoughts on the Falkland/Malvinas War. It was a very hot day but our guide made sure we always had some shade where we stopped along the route, the tour ended in the gorgeous Recoleta cemetery – and if it wasn’t so unbearably hot I’m sure I would have wanted to continue exploring.

The second walking tour we did with Buenos Aires Free Tours was on our final day in South America. We  spent the afternoon walking through the city centre. Once again our guide was excellent and it was a very educational afternoon. The tour ended at Plaza de Mayo where our guide took some time to show us the different versions of the peso bank notes – explaining the controversy of having Evita and The Malvinas on certain notes – as well as how ridiculous it is paying rent in a country where the largest note is the equivalent of about $7US.

Both tours were wonderful and a great way to get personal with Buenos Aires – for only a tip – that was very well earn by both our guides.
