The Coolest Ice Cream Shop in Reykjavik: Valdís

By on July 16, 2015
Ice cream might not be the first thing on your mind during a trip to Iceland, but it doesn’t have to be a hot day to go out for ice-cream (apparently). If you find yourself craving something cold and sweet, trust me, Valdís is the coolest place in Reykjavik to get a cone.
Located in one cool area West Harbor area (or Grandinn as it is known to the locals) the ice cream parlour is inside quirky old fishing gear storage unit, surrounded by trendy bars, restaurants, hotels and galleries, Valdís is the number one choice for arctic ice cream connoisseurs.
10001470_10152260098611273_799402207_nOffering around eighteen fresh flavours each day, each batch is home made and exquisite. Valdís makes it’s ice cream on the premises and you’ll see the Valdís ice cream makers working at the next batch while you wait in line. Featuring old favourites like fruity gelato and chocolatey mixes, there are always some eccentric flavours in the mix, Icelandic people love liquorice so  have often seen liquorice  sorbet on offer. They always have a few vegan choices. So the lactose-free and animal-loving are always catered for in this funky dessert stop.
Did I mention that it also happens to be a cool place to hang out at night? When my friend Jara suggested going out for an eleven pm ice cream run I thought she was insane, but you’d be surprised by the number of people that fill the store on a cold winters night. It is the best spot for night-time sweet tooth’s to get their sugar fix and socialise.
