Sailing the Greek Islands
For three days in Greece my life was pretty simple. The basic formula was: sail, swim, eat, sleep, repeat.
From my understanding that’s basically how any sailing trip in Greece goes.
We had driven along the Greek coastline, then boarded onto flotilla of yachts for three days of sun, sand and sailing on the Ionian Sea. Everything was happening in ‘Greek time’, so it took most of the day to convince the Greek skippers to stop smoking and actually take us sailing but eventually we were off.
The days were spent in turquoise water, swimming, diving off boats and taking epic Instagram shots. By night, we flaunted our (attempted) european tan lines and dropped anchor to hop between authentic Greek tavernas for nights of feasting, table and fire dancing and splashes of ouzo.
You know the saying, too much of a good thing? Neither did we.
Life was simple for those three days. The water was crystal clear and the sun was bright. If it weren’t for a few too many drunk naked boys on my yacht, it would have come close to being perfect.
I had no sailing experience and if you are like me there are many companies that offer sailing trips for people travelling solo to hook up with a sailing gang for a few days. If you are in need of a break from hostels and life on land, sailing the Greek islands is the most fun you can have without taking your clothes off, or you could copy my annoying shipmates and do both… Just don’t expect me to share my Ouzo with you if you do.
